RIP, Hotdog.

I love you, Tio. Even though I know we will see each other again, I am not capable of really conceiving of that other world, and the reality that I will never see your smile again in this one is heavy on my heart.

I remember your profile, your smile tipping up your chin and your beard, and I can feel your hand clasping mine as you say, “Hey, you hamburger!” with bright eyes. I never want to forget those nuances, and I replay them again and again to etch them into my memory.

You were the best man I knew, with the most glorious death. You were consistency and faith. Your soul shines so brightly that there is still light reflecting around these parts.

I know you don’t need my prayers to get to heaven, but I’m thinking of you constantly. I’m rereading your emails to me, and my heart aches with your words, which feel so alive and fresh and relevant. Thank you for the insights, the advice, the poetry, the book recommendations, the prayers, the endless compassion and understanding, and the ability to meet those who were nowhere near as evolved as you were. You, your life, is a song.

I began the Challenge meditations today.

I wish I could take you to every thrift store in town.

I love you, Tio. I love you.

Your Hotdog,

Maggie
